Watch Chris talking about his plans for growth, and how you can be a part of LockerGnome’s future. If you’re interested, fill out the short form!

From Chris:

Hello, galaxy! I'm Chris Pirillo, and I've been riding the wild waves of the internet since way back in 1996. For those of you who might not know me, I'm the guy behind LockerGnome, one of the first independent creator brands to grace the World Wide Web. It used to be called that, ya know?

Over the years, I've weathered ups, downs, and everything in between (both on my own as well as with a small, dedicated team). I had to figure out how to make things work as an internet entrepreneur when there weren't any templates. What used to be difficult is now easy, and what used to be easy is now difficult.

I was creating email newsletters while most people were still using dial-up. I was assembling DRM-free eBooks before most people were comfortable selling content online. I was blogging before it was a word. I was podcasting before support was baked into iTunes. I was streaming live video long before it was possible to do on a phone. I was certainly doing all of this when we didn't have centralized social media platforms and apps demanding an ever-dwindling amount of attention.

I've been on an incredible journey, inadvertently inspiring countless individuals to turn their passions into careers… using technology to make it all happen. Amidst all the geek culture passion and tech content I've shared, my personal story has always resonated with people in a way that's impossible to describe. That's likely less due to what I might've talked about at any given time and more about how I made everyone feel - reaching out through the screen and making connections.

Now, the way we create and consume content has certainly shifted over the decades. It's become less about building real, human connections and more about optimizing for algorithmic feeds on any given platform. That's where I've long needed someone else's help, constantly needing to readjust my strategies and tactics.

So, the first thing I believe is working again (based on data and trends):

  • Personal tech vlogs. Longer-form, at least 1x a week, and somewhat repurposable into shorts. Y'all remember the vlogs? Y'all remember all my tech thoughts? I'm aiming to combine the best of both worlds. Conversational in nature, casual in feel, approachable, and intermittently informative. I can keep producing them if there's enough interest, here - and the goal will be to re-establish relationships with sponsors (where most creators will have generated revenue).

Just like you don't have to be a vlogger to enjoy the tech vlogs, you don't have to be a creator to know that other creators will find value in what I'd like to build for them. So, something else I would love to explore:

  • Educating and/or enabling in a formalized, productized way. This might come in the form of developing courses for would-be creators looking to tap my decades of experience as a pioneer in using the internet (building communities and leveraging social media) to become an independent entrepreneur. What I know is now worth more than what I've been able to do with what I know, so I'm looking to find a joint venture (JV) partner to help build and sell such courses / classes / education to people who want to learn how to find success in following a similar path.

Unlike most creators, and unlike anything I've done in the past, I'm looking to share these sources of revenue with y'all (and have it managed independently to ensure everything is tracked by the books).

So, I'm not seeking an investment in the ideas, but the intended execution. The investment is in the LockerGnome team, and the structure would be being managed through the OverSubscribe platform (built with and for people who know what they're doing in their respective lanes). Through OverSubscribe, I will also have access to people who have a track record in helping people like me ("talent," if you will) scale.

Your managed investment would help me cover my costs (as I've always been somewhat of a freelancer), but also hire experts in a few areas, all handpicked to maximize LockerGnome's content impact and growth - to make it possible to do (again) indefinitely. Yes, with investors, it's about more than just "Chris Pirillo."

Investing in LockerGnome would offer a unique option to tap into a brand (and name) with a history of success and renewed strategy for growth - all while challenging the status quo in the content creation space (letting a creator's success become your own).

You in?

In the future (and certainly with more than just me), I'd like to be able to explore additional ideas that may include:

  • Rebooting a produced tech show (a la TechTV / Call for Help Segments)

  • Formalizing an event series to better enable peers / creators

  • I feel this is a great idea, and will gladly invest in LG. Expect me to be here every step of the way mate!

    @Xmetalfanx

  • Count my vote as interested! Bringing something like TechTV back would be fantastic!

    @cottonedge

  • I'm onboard Chris! Been a "follower" since 2001/2002 Call For Help / Tech TV days, and you have helped me in many indirect ways including tech and life related matters, sort of like a life coach. This channel and you deserve much more subs and followers, and 300K+ doesn't do justice to what you have been contributing to the community all these years. More than happy to invest and also be part of the growth of the channel and your brand overall. Let's go!

  • (Former LockerGnome editor has entered the chat): Chris, yes, this sounds epic. Seriously. I am paying close attention to this one.

    @the-real-matthartley

  • It would be amazing to get content close to, if not better than what we had back in Tech Tv days. I’d be interested investing content like that. There will always be a good amount of people out there that need help navigating the ever changing landscape of tech

    @antfernz

  • Perfect idea, Chris. I'm onboard. More than happy to invest!
